EpiDrum is a novel device that may replace the Loss of Resistance (LoR) syringe in epidural puncture procedures. It consists of a low pressure airchamber that -mounted on the standard epidural needle- will promptly deflate upon entering the epidural space, giving a visual endpoint for the advancing of the needle. The pressure in the chamber is optimised not to deflate in interstitial tissues and only deflate inside epidural space.
This technique has been demonstrated to be easier and faster to learn.
EpiDrum allows you to have two hands on the needle for better directional, speed and depth control.
EpiDrum can be used as a single handed technique to free the other hand, e.g. for real time echo monitoring.
